New Innovative Program from Coursera and UNT Targets Comebackers

To get students who stopped going to class back to their degree, innovative solutions are required.
That’s exactly why the education company Coursera is partnering with the University of North Texas to create a new bachelor’s degree program that caters to working adults that are part of the some-college-no-degree group. Originally reported by Inside Higher Ed writer Lindsay McKenzie, this will be an online degree type called a bachelor’s of applied arts and sciences.
Vice President for Digital Strategy at the University, Adam Fein, is hopeful that opening up online courses will not only attract comebackers, but also veterans, international students, and first generation students. This new, online program is based off of a similar flexible program already being implemented on the physical campus.
Students of the online program receive similar benefits as on-campus students, including in-state tuition discounts and advisors to help them every step of the way.
This program comes in the wake of the failure of a similar program at Cal State with Pearson. But Coursera is determined to make it work, to learn from prior mistakes, and to expand. Their impressive track record with graduate education makes them the perfect people for the job.
